What is an entrepreneur?

Nobody seems to know what an entrepreneur is. This is no great surprise. There is no-one out there to teach them. You may think your accountant, your MBA friend or your lawyer might be able to help, but they don’t really know either. The only people who do know learnt entrepreneurship at the school of hard knocks.

From 100 start-ups, on average, 40% fail in year one, 40% of those survivors fail within 5 years and 80% of the rest will go in the next 5 years. So out of the original 100 that start on day one, only 7, on average, will survive 10 years– this is terrifying. Even those who do survive will likely be battle-scarred, exhausted, stressed and living an unbalanced life.

Is there a better way? Of course. That is why Ed wrote Lift Off! – to help entrepreneurs to have a better chance of survival, to make more money and, most importantly, to have more fun doing it.
